How are miners mitigating local, national and global challenges?

The panel discussion chaired by Richard Oldcorn, Corporate Consultant, SRK Consulting (UK), focused on the following issues:

  • How are the companies mitigating operational challenges caused by disrupted supply chains, adverse exchange rates, and increases in energy prices?
  • Meeting ESG and Climate change commitments.
  • Securing the supply of critical raw materials to global markets.
  • Enabling traceability and product provenance in raw material supply chains.

Richard invited representatives of mining companies operating projects in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia and Ukraine to provide insightful comments on how they are managing the issues.

The panel began with the exchange from Denis Alyoshin, CEO, Ukrlithiummining and Rob Simmons, Investor Relations and Corporate Development executive from Ferrexpo. Both panellists talked about the operational challenges the companies are managing in Ukraine.

Ali Haji, CEO, Ion Energy developing an exploration project in Mongolia, was asked a question on how does a TSX-listed company manage the investor expectations when developing a project between Russia and China, given the current sanctions and covid restrictions?

Tania Tchedaeva, Director, Corporate Governance & Company Secretary, Polymetal International, talked about how the London-listed Company is managing its business with mines in Kazakhstan and delivering on ESG and climate change commitments.

Eugene Antonov, Chief Transformation Officer and Liubov Egorova, Director for Mineral Resources Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company, discussed large-scale transformation and development of the Company. They were also asked to share their views on the constraints from supply chains, increased costs, ESG and climate change expectations, and how the Company plans to meet these challenges in the coming years.

Nathan Williams, CEO & Founder, Minespider talked about traceability and product provenance in raw material supply chains and how the Eurasian companies are implementing this concept.
